eWHORM Clinical Trial Workshop: A Successful Capacity-Building Initiative

The eWHORM project recently hosted a successful two-week workshop on clinical trial conduct, co-organized by DNDi, Swiss TPH, and BNITM. This hybrid event brought together over 30 participants from Tanzania, Gabon, Cameroon, DR-Congo, and Nigeria, including sponsors, principal investigators, and study coordinators with a range of experience in clinical trials.

Training Overview:

Online Training (18-28 November): The first week focused on the theoretical aspects of clinical trials, covering topics such as SOP development, data management, and good clinical practice (GCP). Participants also presented their sub-studies and shared site-specific insights.

Onsite Training (02-06 December): The second week, hosted at CERMEL in Gabon, facilitated practical training through group exercises, discussions, and knowledge-sharing sessions. Participants from multiple African countries engaged in collaborative exchanges to enhance their trial implementation skills. The workshop met its objectives of providing foundational knowledge and fostering best practices in clinical trial conduct, particularly for the upcoming OXF-01 trial. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, and participation was active throughout the training, with presentations and materials made available in English and French to facilitate the discussion.

Moving forward, the workshop’s success sets the stage for further collaboration in clinical trial capacity-building within the eWHORM project.
